I have used win98 as long as I have owned a comp(about 5 yrs.).My first PC was a Gateway 266Mhz, 2gig HD, 32MB RAM & Win98. Aside from the comp bieng a total junk, and some of my own toying misfortunes, I got along just fine with 98. I decided that for my next PC, I would build my own. About 3 years ago, I bought all the parts and got it up and running with the copy of 98 that I got from Gateway. I chose an AMD Athlon 800Mhz, 30gig HD and 128meg pc133 SDRAM(I wanted more, but RAM was running high at the time). I loved it. Everything was done my way. Last year, I decided to give XP a try, so I bought another HD and decided to do a dual boot system, 98 for when I wanted to get things done, and XP Pro to toy around with. Everything worked out just fine. Last week, I picked up 3, 256 meg pc133 sticks and threw them in(768meg). I use XPPro mainly now, but I still love 98 for alot of things(games). Now I have all sorts of problems with 98; not enough memory errors trying to install/uninstall progs., crashes, errors, exceptions, you name it. XP runs flawlessly and fast. I've done all maintenance, both windows and Nortons, updated tons of drivers, cleaned everything imagineable(registry, cache, etc...), tested the RAM, you name it, I've tried it. Anyway, I've been doing alot of referencing to my problem, and have found a few regarding too much RAM for 98. Someone said to try and keep it under 512 meg. I like having the memory in the comp for XP, but I have gaming issues with XP, so I need to keep 98 alive. Can anyone help???
