Windows Explorer won't open (W98)

Woe is me! Not sure what I did to screw this up (maybe 1st defrag in 3 years!) but now win explorer and internet explorer won't open. Win exp says 'explorer caused an invalid page fault in module vx2.dll @ 0187:018403d0'. Internet exp just says it can't open. I cant open my control panel.

Any idea what to do? I have win 98 on a Compaq Presario 5204 (yes, I know it's time for a new computer)

Dank - you truely are the Guru!! I deleted the file while in safe mode, rebooted and voila! Everything is back to normal (for me).
