I attempted to run the ScanRegW as suggested per my previous post. I got the following error message
WINDOWS REGISTRY CHECKER
Windows encountered an error accessing the system registry. Windows will restart and repair the system for you. OK
I hit OK and windows restarted with a different background desktop showing on my monitor, followed by the same error message. I hit OK again and when windows came back on my regular desktop came back on start up.
I searched for the ctrlpan.dll but gave up trying to find it.
I do have another problem. I recently typed in an address using just the www. omitting the http// prefix, and was taken to an undesired search web page that I can't get rid of. plus a folder has appeared in my favorites labeled links containing unwanted web pages. The links folder reappears when I access the web as an empty folder untill I reboot and the web links are back.
