Rundll error (W98)

On starting up my computer, this message comes up:
RUNDLL
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ctrlpan.dll
A dynamic link library (dll) initialization routine failed

I don't know how to, or if this is can be corrected, any suggestions?

The file itself looks fishy to begin with...anyway, check the following reg keys
Start > Run> regedit (now hit enter, and exercise caution in the registry, as it contains too many system settings for one's health.)

Before changing anything, run ScanRegW from run to back up the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
There'll be some keys around these with names starting with Run (e.g., RunServices, RunOnce)
Check all these for any entries pertaining to RunDLL with that filename in the data.

Reboot and see if the error is gone.
