registry tweak found in feb 2004 maximumpc, pg 35. change the logon backgound color. it says to do the following:

open regedit and navigate to the following registry key: hkey_users\default\control panel\colors. on the right-side details panel, double-click background string value. change this number to a three-digit RGB value, then click OK.

i have done the above just as it states, several times with several different three-digit RGB values...no change? this tweak seems to do NOTHING? anybody familiar with this tweak?

The tweak wasn't well worded. What you need to do is select three digit color values (each) for red, green and blue. Check out System Properties > Appearance > Advanced. If you click on the color sector for, say, a font a color chart pops-up. Go to custom and you will see examples. It works for me. /images/forums/icons/smile.gif

it does work. i just wasn't looking for the results in the right place.

i have a kick *** jpg for my desktop, but if you right click the desktop and go to the appearance tab and view the color of the background, that's the color that gets changed...woo hoo. by the way the mag put it i thought i was changing the welcome (fast user switching/logon screen). IS THERE A HACK FOR THIS????

how can anyone call this a hack when you can easily change this within the gui interface? what a rip off.
