Problem:

My svchost.exe was taking up 100% of the CPU. This rendered my system fairly useless, and also unable to connect to the internet, although it could communicate with my network. (Connected by Ethernet to a D-Link DI-713P router) So, I tested out all of my Services in msconfig. Eventually I found that if RIP Listener and SDDP Service Discovery were disabeld, svchost did not hog all of the CPU, and the system ran normally. However, there was still no internet access, but the network connections worked fine.

Any suggestions? Descriptions of RIP Listener/SDDP Discovery Service? Is there anyway I could get new copies of these without reinstalling XP?

I had this problem last year, but I gave up and re-built my OS from scratch.

Just this morning though, I had the I.E problem.
I had used ad-aware once yesterday and when I booted up this morning it executed itself. Both times finding many items of soyware to remove.

I removed them and that's when the trouble with I.E started.

If you have recently used a Ad-Aware or similar to remove spyware, then I would suggest back tracking. I know with Ad-Aware you can restore your changes from the quarantine.

Hope This Helps

You probably have the Nachi/Welchia worm virus.
Go here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html to get the removal tool(s).
