what's protecting the LAN

somebody had a virus (on a floppy for example), the virus got detected by the anti-virus system and deleted. So the question here: what got rid of the virus? the network's anti-virus system or the anti-virus system installed on the computer that browsed the floppy?

also, infected stuff (files, docs, etc) saved on network, getting deleted by the network's anti-virus system or by the anti-virus system on the computer that detected it?

I would say the AV software installed on the local machine as this would (if set) perform the scan of removable media. Also the response time from the local AV software would be quicker than that of any network based AV solution.

...if the virus was on the local machine, it will not detect virii on other machines or transmission.
