Can anyone tell me how to make other computer accessible on the network? I am trying to connect to a Win98 O.S system but not possible. Also, tell me how to set up a network accessible printer. Thanks

I can only help with printer.
Right click on printer and go to sharing.
Type in a name for share.
Go to other computer.
Go to add printer.
For the location type in \\nameofcomputer\printer share, or you should be able to browse to it.
On the Win-98 computer, go to controlpanel/network and click on the "File and Print Sharing" button. Check the boxes for "I want to share my files" and "I want to share my printers"

What kind of Network are you trying to connect the Windows 98 pc to?
A workgroup or Domain?

I think we need to know the full specifics of your workgroup. Basically, you may wish to tell us how many pc's you are networking, what operating systems they are running, what printer you have,(some printers are not networkable, ie some HP Deskjet printers)
Once we have all this info, perhaps we can be a little more helpful!
A Domain is generally a server based network in which each pc is required to log on with secured credentials, to be brief. Generally only used in businesses where there are a lot of computers.
In order to setup a domain, or connect to one, you will generally need slightly more configuration.

quick and dirty resolution
On windows 98 add an entry in the C:\windows\hosts file for the XP pc
example entry
192.168.1.x XPpcname
This works best if you are using staic IP addresses
You can do the same on the XP machine but the host file is located at C:\%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

If you are trying to network the 98 machine with XP machines or even 2K mahcines, you will definitely need to do the host files. after you modify the host files you might have to run nbtstat -R from trhe command prompt to get the host files to kick i9n without a reboot.
