can anyone tell me what this is and what to do about it:

1] from administrator acount, attempt to open add/remove programs, this is what i get:

An error has occured in the script on this page.

Line: 0
Char: 0
Error: Access denied to :res//appwiz.cpl/places.htc
Code: 0
URL: res://sp3res.dll/default.hta

Do you wish to continue running scripts on this page? Yes/No

2] pressing either yes or no (doesn't matter which) yields this result:

Unexpected error occured.

Object doesn't support this property or method
res://sp3res.dll/default.hta
Line: 82

3] end result is a blank window where add/remove programs list should be.

If it's not a virus, try running sfc.

I believe laurieA means system file checker which wouldnt be a terrible place to start. Just go to your command window and type sfc /scannow and see what it brings up. If it doesnt bring up anything which I believe is likely, you can try this mickeysoft article.
