I have a new system (Win 98 SE). After installing many programs, I had a strange thing happen. When I create a folder it creates with the name 'New Folder'. At this point I cannot change the name, delete, or move the folder. I can delete files. I have tried to recreate the recycle bin. I have right clicked to delete, I have drug to the recycle bin, in any instance the screen blinks and returns the folder to the original location. I can create folders, which have the names 'New Folder (2)','New Folder (3)' and so on. I get an illegal operation when trying to change the name, move or delete. At that point the items in the systray disappear. I can delete the folders if I go into DOS mode, or if I delete from another PC (I am networked). I called HP, who was not able to help. They suggested that I re-image. I got tired of messing with it, re-imaged, but since then it happened again. I am functional, but it is irritating to deal with. In checking around I have seen a reghack to change the attributes of the Recycle Bin, which makes me think that this might be solved, by finding the Reg Entry. Has anyone seen this happen??? HELP!!! Is there any Hack to change the way a folder is created?
Thanks!!!

Define many programs.

Have you tried using the sent to, or FileManager (type winfile in the Run box).
When your tray icons go out, its usually Explorer that has crashed.

What are the exact error messages that you get?

I tried Winfile with success. I am away from my PC, tried to post this morning and did not succeed... I will repost the error messages for you later tonight.
Pretty much illegal operations, invalid page fault in module <unknown>, and an internal error
Errors when trying to rename, delete, or move a folder in or to any location on my system.

Error Messages
One error is:
(Explorer)
This program has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down.
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at 0000:00438a01. (When creating a folder and trying to rename it)
same with this one:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:00443fe9.

Another Explorer illegal operation:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff9db61.

When trying to shut down after an instance with trying to delete I get the following:
Windows is currently working with a file. Either wait for Windows to finish, or close it before you quit Windows.
There is nothing running at that time and the PC refuses to shut down gracefully...

After trying to move a folder to another location, I get this:
There was an internal error and one of the windows you were using will be closed.
