Hi,

I have a slight problem. I want to delete some file types from the menu that comes up when you rick click on a file and select "open with".

any suggestions on how to go about this would be appreciated.

thanks,

If I'm reading this correctly.
Open Explorer, choose View>FolderOptions, click the FileTypes tab, scroll down the list and remove the entries here.

that's not quite it. when you do what you describe, you get a description of 'all' the file associations/types on the system. I'm looking for a way to edit only the file types that are associated with the 'open with' menu in explorer.

How am I supposed to know whats in your list, its unique to each computer.
Go to Open with... and copy the program names.

Hi, I'm not quite sure I understood what you want to do but if your question was how to delete some names of the PROGRAMS from the list you're offered after clicking "open with" ... well, then the answer is (as far as I know): The above list of the programs includes the programs that are used to open registered file types (and is generated by scanning the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT of the registry), eg. if you use Notepad to open txt, Notepad will appear in the open-with menu and you won't get rid of it unless you cancel the association txt->Notepad. If the open-with menu includes a program you have deleted then search for its forgotten/undeleted entry in HKCR and delete it.
