the only real difference is the user interface. regedit is better in my mind....-shrug-

You're quite right about the gui being better for regedit. For personal use that is all I ever use.
But when working as a system admin, the ACL mod and hive loading abilities referenced in the above article are two HUGE and highly important differences between the two.
If only there were a combination of the two...hmmm...
Oh yeah. Resplendent Registrar.
A shame I can't afford to deploy it system-wide.
