Everytime a download a file at college on IE, the download will start, continue for around 5 mins then cut out.

Is there any way around this using the good old registry. Much Much Much Apreciated. Dan

I would suggest this is maybe a firewall option/restriction, to stop students downloading software and installing on College computers.

I thought that as well, but is there anyway of altering the options or prehaps getting a piece of software that will allow me continous downloading through a firewall?

There are several apps that will let you pause or stop a download and resume it later without having to start from the beginning. I use GoZilla (www.gozilla.com). There's also one called Doanload Butler. Try going to www.shareware.com and searching.

I have tried these download assisstant programs but the dont work for the simple reason that they cannot download anything because the firewall is blocking the incoming data. I cannot enter the proxy server settings into the options either as i need a password and all the details which i do not know. Is there a download agent that works through a firewall?

In GoZilla, go to Go!>Options. Click on the connection tab and it has a place for you to enter your proxy address, port number, user name, and password. (Proxy addy is probably proxy.yourschool.edu, either port 80 or port 8080). RealDownload (www.real.com) doesn't have a place to enter your user name and password, but it does let you enter the proxy. (Tools>Options). Any downloading agent should. And I use both of the ones I mentioned here with the corporate firewall all the time. Should just be a matter of you entering your proxy info. And if you don't know that, then we can work on finding it for you.
