Noticed sluggishness on the machine, and 100% cpu use even when idle. Tracked down one of the svchost.exe procs but can't kill it because it is the one that handles the RPCs. I used norton and regedit and ruled out Blaster and all the other viruses/worms/trojans i could find out about. Here is a bit of info from sysinternals, showing the malformed process and a 'normal' one for comparison.

Image Name PID CPU CPU Time Mem Page Faults Handles Threads I/O Reads I/O Other I/O Read Bytes I/O Other Bytes

CCD.exe 924 02 0:00:24 3560K 18,212 672 10 3736 88,019 1,275,832 15,705,004
svchost.exe 852 72 0:34:23 3512K 1094 300 9 204 112,635,576 94,328 29,043

Sorry about the formatting, the posterseems to take out my spacing. You can see it is doing no read/write, just lots of I/O 'other' with very little content.

I tried to gather a lot of info, but suggest more stats, and i'll get them.

Thanks in advance,

Adam Blake

hrm...svchost.exe is a normal process...it's not unusual to have 3, 5 or more of them running.

1] have you checked to see if there are any BHOs running?

2] check your StartAtBoot list, make sure nothing untoward is afoot.

3] run spybot and hijack to make sure (matter of fact, post a hijack scan here for further analysis...
