Hi, I am having trouble finding where I can check how much memory is left in my PC. I can check it with XP but I don't see it anywhere in Windows 98se.

Have you tried Resource Meter or System Monitor?

Always glad to help!

You know why they called it Windows?
Because as soon as it opens, all the bugs get in.

Hi Josh, these programs aren't included in Win98. Do I get these with third party software?

The two features are available in Win98/98SE but are not part of the standard/default setup. You can get them by going to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup tab, and the System Tools section. Have your CD at hand.

Thanks Bert, I found the options but unfortunately I left my CD at work. I'll have to install them later.

Thanks, Bob

Just to be sure look at Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, (Resource Meter and System Monitor)

If you have a 'brand' computer you may find the .cab files from the CD in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs, just point the Add/Remove to that location.

You could use a little app called AnalogX (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/system/maxmem.htm>MaxMem). It puts a little icon on the system tray that is a realtime line graph showing the RAM levels being used. Hover over the icon and a tooltip pops up showing actual MB used and free. Click on it to clear orphaned data in RAM.

That program doesn't work too bad either.

Of course, all of these programs will consume the very resources that you are trying to monitor, albeit a negligible amount...

MaxMem might be more of what I am trying to find. In MSINFO32 on XP I believe it tells you how memory (virtual) you have and how much is being used. This is what I'm trying to get with 98.

Task Manager in WinXP has a tab about Performance that gives memory/paging file usage, CPU usage, etc.

MaxMam is close enough for what I was looking for. It's a pretty nice tool. Thanks,
