Hello,

I have accidentially denied all the userrights for the everyone group under the security tab of my harddisk and now windows xp isn't starting anymore. Can anyone help me to undo this accident.

You might try to use windows setup cd and run repair. I'm not sure if that really helps. After repair you might also have to reinstall windows servicepacks.

Maybe better way is to use ERD commander from www.winternals.com. It's commercial software, but you can get 30 day trial. I haven't used it myself, but after wathcing product presentation I'm convinced that it is very useful tool for recovering unbootable windows systems.

the reason xp isn't starting is you've denied user rights to the SYSTEM account (a resident account windows uses to run internal processes). my advice would be to boot off a floppy or cd, and wipe the drive. but then again i'm a cynic. boot off a cd, then (with a full admin account) and try to 'take ownership' of the drive. this works 3/4th of the time. then you have to restore the rights tree. (so that every sub directory and everything on the drive has the same assignment as the master C:.
then reenable rights for Everyone. that'll let the SYSTEM account and all the other ones use the drive. reboot. rinse. repeat.

to pass the time waiting for the rights tree to reassign itself, i recommend a bowl of Total Raisin Bran, and a copy of Richard P. Feynman's Quantum Electro Dynamics.

ps. again, i'd like to state my displeasure with winguides decision to remove the quick, easy dropdown forum menus.
