can`t open attatchments (W98)

A friend of mine had a virus which screwed up his outlook express .He has since got his email working again but now when he clicks on attatchments sent to him in his email messages (jpg files ect.) they will not open.He is using windows 98.Can someone tell me if there are settings I can use to correct this. thanks

click on tools,options,security and remove the check mark from "do not allow attachments etc..."

You might try holding down the shift key while right-clicking on the .jpg or .bmp file (you'll have to save it to either your 'My Documents' or Desktop first). Select the option 'open with..'. When the next window appears, select one of your picture programs, and click O.K. (or open). There is a small box you can check if you want this particular program to always open these type files. The option next to the box to be checked will say something like 'Always use this program when opening these type files'.
