hi there guys...
Q1: what does % means? i.e: C:\%system%
Q2: In a LAN, can I connect any PC to the net by just plugging cables in it?

% is used represent an actual path, usually starting in Windows or the root of the drive, and makes the computer search for .
Sometimes, but usually permissions have to be set to allow the PC to be there.
Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement

Dazeagle,
A1: It tells the system to look at the environment variables, such as %system% is set to be your windows install directory. C:\Windows or whatever folder you chose.
If you open a command prompt and type set you'll see that one, and others.
Always glad to help!

You know why they called it <font color=blue>Windows</font color=blue>?
Because as soon as it opens, all the bugs get in.

A2 Yes, depending. If the router the subnet you plug into is set to pass port 80 (internet) requests from any computer, then yes, connecting the proper cable to a hot port will get you net access. (This assumes your NIC is functioning properly and that it is possible to find a path through from the port you plug into to the outside world through the network equipment.) On some LANs the router may refuse any port 80 connections to the outside from any computer but the designated proxy, gateway, or other specific machines. If this is the case, you would have to know the name or ip of the proxy to enter into the LAN settings in IE. It depends on the network topology the security department has decided on.
