I'm currently on a network that requires a password; we're having server problems. I would like to disable this requirement so I can access files stored on the C: drive. How do I restore the registry default setting which does not require a validation/login?

A Win98 workstation and you want to access the C: drive on it? I'd think that clicking Cancel instead of putting in the password should allow use of the computer not connected to the network.

Alright, if it is the same way I did it at work you need to do this. First off when the machine is booting you need to go into dos mode and execute this file: c:\windows\command\edit.com Then type this as it appears.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon]
"MustBeValidated"=dword:00000000
Now save the file as ummm c:\1.reg
open the autoexec.bat file and then put the first line of the autoexec.bat
regedit c:\1.reg
Now save it and reboot the machine.
It will load up then come up to a login for network you then can hit the ESC key.
or you should be able to unplug the network cable from the machine turn it on and then hit the ESC key when it gets to a windows login not a network login. Please let me know if this helps.
Hope this helps,
Ben

Hi:
I just wanted you to know that today I disabled the forced login on the server. the script you had was correct, I did some sleuthing on the server and found the script...despite its "unlikely" name.
Downloaded directly...rebooted...voila...I hit cancel and got into the computer's C: drive.
I don't know if you need the autoexec.bat file as you suggested; mine worked with the snippet.
Yippeeeeee!!
THANK YOU FOR THE FEEDBACK AND RESPONSE.
Rita
