Delete this key in the windows registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}

I haven't experienced any ill effects so far. Have fun.

Thanks for this post! It worked well for me, but a side effect seems to be that LocalAreaConnection in the Network Connections window now says "network cable unplugged" even when I'm connected and working online. So far not a problem, just a bit disconcerting.
