We have a number of users that have Win XP/IE 6 with Office 97. When we create an extract file and send them a URL in a web page that should result in the usual Open/Save dialog box that you get from an automated download they instead see the file opened as a text file in the browser window.

We checked the BrowserOptions registry entry for the CSV extension and it is set to 8 per MS instructions. The "Open after download" box is checked. We're out of ideas.

Anyone know of any other areas that need to be checked?

Thanks.

I don't know if that has anything to do with your problem, but WinXP has also file extension specific settings under registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts". I noticed it when I wanted to changed which program opens bmp files. I changed keys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and was astonished that bmp files were still opened old way. Only after changing also that other registry branch I got what I wanted.
