After re-ghosting a second copy of Windows XP Pro onto my laptop to partition 2, the OS is not happy. All paths in the registry that point to the root directory start with "C:\", but now the root directory on the new OS is "E:\" because it is on partition 2 which Windows has labelled the "E" drive. Question is, how can I rename all references to "C:\" to "E:\" as there must be thousands of them? I've tried exporting the whole registry, makeing the changes in Notepad with "replace all" then importing the changes but the registry doesn't like it. Can anyone help me?

I remember a topic here before where the user did a search and replace in the registry.
I tried searching for it but couldn't find the correct thread. I did however find a reference to this search and replace software:

I haven't tried it but you may want to check it out.

Andy,
You're a life saver - thanks.
The thread took me to a link to a website called ??? which had a registry utility available for download called RegReplace125f.exe. This application allowed me to search and replace all references to an invalid path in my registry and fixed the problem. Such a simple task was taking me hours to do manually in the registry.
I owe you one, regards,
Peter
