Hey guys, does anybody know the tweak to force the programs in the start menu to span multiple columns (instead of the scrolling)....I've tried the tweak on this site and it doesn't work......

it worked for 98 but not for XP.....is there something that should be different

Go to the Advanced Tab in Customize Start Menu (Taskbar & Start Menu Properties > Start Menu > Customize) and un-check "Scroll Programs".

thanks for that, that actually worked, but I'd rather use the classic style start menu and for that the unchecking of that "scroll Programs" box doesn't work....any other ideas....

See if this registry tweak does the trick for you:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/515/>Enable or Disable Start Menu Smooth Scrolling</a>

The value you want to set is No.

actually I figured it out.....you can't disable scrolling (with or without the registry tweak you mentioned) and also have the "Use Personalized Menus" box checked...so after unchecking that, it worked....thanks for the help though.....

I knew there was one setting I was missing. /images/forums/icons/crazy.gif

Leave it to Microsoft to park a Start Menu setting in Internet Options!!

Good detective work. /images/forums/icons/smile.gif
