Alright, I know this might sound a little illogical, or something you would not normally do: When you go into display properties, click on the Appearance tab and go to advanced it allows you to edit the colors/scheme of the windows shell, such as the window borders, scroll bar width, and font. My question is, where does Windows store this information? Would it be possible to edit a certain color scheme with notepad then place it back in? The main question here though, is where that information about the schemes are stored, and how I can access it.

If you are making any system changes and want to know what keys are affected in the registry then the simplest method is to use regshot.
Regshot will take a snapshot of the registry before the change is made and then after the change. It will then compare the two snapshots and display the differences i.e. keys that were changed.
You can download regshot from here:

thanks, but that's not what I'm asking for... I'm asking if there is a way to get into where the setting's for the explorer's shells appearance and colors are stored, and if there is a way to modify it/make your own color scheme with maybe notepad or something then stick it back in....

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for.
If you are modifying settings and want to know where they are stored in the registry then regshot is the way to do it. Once you know the keys that are being modified you can then look at the values and perhaps modify them to reflect the color scheme you are looking for.
You may find however that the settings are not in the registry and that you have to use a hex editor to modify a dll.
If you give regshot a try then at least you will know if the settings are in the registry.

Here's a link to download a color scheme that's a .reg file. I'd post the contents, but it's rather long...
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.desktopian.org/tin_schemes.reg>Right-click and "Save Target As..."</a>
I'm not sure if it will work on 2k as I believe that it was made for Win98, but it may give you an idea.
Always glad to help!

ok, I believe this is what I want to be able to modify, I don't know if these are just the values for the changes you can make in the control panel or if extra values are added. How would I be able to change these values then save the changes?
