I have a Compaq Presario S3100NX and AMD 2200+ with 768 MB ram. Does anyone have any hard facts or good opinions about using no page file versus the suggested 1024 mb page file? Or any other size for a page file?

In other words, would my system be faster without using a page file since I have so much physical RAM? It seems like it would, since the system does not have to access the hard drive for memory - just the much faster RAM.

Your system won't be any faster as the pagefile is used when required and as you have plenty of RAM it won't be utilized very heavily.

I typically allow Windows to manage the page file for me and haven't had any problems. You can set the pagefile max and min to the same value to reduce fragmentation but I believe the performance impact of this is neglible.

Cheers

Thanks, Andy. I will try letting XP manage my memory, as I do not see much difference in no page file and in setting it myself.
