View Full Version : Can't "open in new window" (W98)

Yesterday I started getting a problem where I clicked on a link and a new window would open but wouldn't load. I also got this if I right clicked the link to open in a new window.

I've run NAV, it didn't find any viruses , I downloaded Stopsign from the net, and this just found spyware, not viruses. I then downloaded another free virus scanner which when I tried to install it came back with this message:
Error Number 0x80070725
Description: Incompatible version of the RPC Stub
Setup will now terminate

I done a search at google with this in, but all I found was a remedy for win2000, and no mention of it in win98.

I'm at my wits end now, as I don't know what to do, I really don't know that much about the workings of a computer, and I would really appreciate some help from a more knowledgeable person than me!

I am running Win98, IE 6.0

Thank you for any help you may offer.

Hi Shellbe76, welcome to WinGuides

To resolve this problem please follow these steps:

Quit all programs that are running.

Click Start, and then click Run.

Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.

When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below

Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll

Hi there I am having the same problem as Shellby and I folowed your steps and typed in all of the above things, everything was ok and went thru got no error messages at all. But I still wasnt getting the web pages.I was then told to type shell32.dll also, when I typed this I got the message
Shell32.dll was loaded but the dllserverregister entry point was not found. Dllregistryserver may not be exported or a corrupt version of shell32.dll may be in memory. Concidering using PView to detect and remove it.

I have no idea what PView. I am unable to replace shell32.dll as when I downloaded it I am unable to replace overwrite or anythign with the shell32.dll that is already there.

I am runnign windows98se and Internet Explorer 6. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks Aus*****

Shell32.dll isn't self registering in Win98, hence that error message.

Do this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC.
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file’s location, which is probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

Reboot, and tell us whether that solves your problem. It should.

NOTE: before doing that, make a copy of your present version of Oleaut32.dll and save it outside your Windows\System directory for safekeeping.

Well, you need to lose those <b> tags. That will account for that error message.

just type oleaut32.dll

I am also have the exact same problem as the other two folks.

I ran regsvr32 urlmon.dll successfully but it didn't fix the problem.

When I tried to run the other items in the list - specifically:
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll

I received this error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in My Computer by clicking view and then clicking Folder Options."

I had no idea what to associate with the files above.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance
