Hi
I have a huge problem which I do not know how to solve. Hoping someone can help me on this.
When I try to try to read text and I open it in Notepad or Microsoft Word, I get garbage text which looks like cyrillic writing has little blocks where the "English" letters should be-- and is totally unreadable. For example, I backed up my Registry onto a floppy tonight. I tried to open the lo.sys file in Notepad and there was the lo.sys file ---but could not read it as it was in blocks and truiangles etc.
What do I change to get the writing , readable?
I would really appreciate some advise on this.
Regards to all

Certain file types will show only 'garbage' or machine language when trying to view them in Word, WordPerfect, WordPro, Notepad, Wordpad, etc.

Some of those are .exe, .com, .sys, .dat, there's many others. Those are created by programmers [.dat are created by any number of programs they are associated with] and to be able to make changes in them could keep the program from running, especially io.sys.

MSDOS.SYS is part of the boot process and can be edited by a person that knows what he/she is doing.

Again, some files are not intended to be changed by the end user and the wrong change can keep the computer from booting.

Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement
