use registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3]
"DisableTrayIcon"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run]
"WinVNC"=""
"WVNC"="C:\\Program Files\\TightVnc\\winvnc.exe"
(this could be good for system administrators who want to keep an eye on the employees that use the company computers)running vnc in stealth mode

Sweet!
I needed that. I've been installing a copy of the executable with the icons removed. It was a half-a**ed way of doing it that left a bad taste in my mouth, but I couldn't find an alternative. This tweak was just what I needed. Thanks!

This tweak will works for all windows.
You dont have to install vnc just copy the winvnc.exe and hooks.dll files over to C;\\Program Files\\TightVnc\\ That way the VNCviewer inst installed. There wont be anything in the add and remove programs either.

Did anyone ever get this to work? I am trying to use this on an XP Pro machine. Any help is appreciated.

This is more a band-aid then a fix to your question. It is what I use since I could not find an answer to a similar question about UltraVNC. This tweak hides EVERYTHING in the Taskbar. The only thing left after applying this registry tweak is the clock.
