Relatively new Win98 machine - after boot up - gets Memory Driver error message stating "cannot import c:\windows\kak.reg". Search does not locate this in the registry. Another Win98 machine has this located at:

HKEY_USERS/default/software/microsoft/windows/current version/explorer/doc find spec MRU

How do I make this additional entry in the registry?

I am completely dumb about the registry, so in plain terms would be helpful.

Thanks

I'm not getting this-- is "Memory Driver error message stating..." your words or a verbatim error message?

The reason I ask is that it *sounds* like you have a batch file, or a shortcut in your startup folder that's referring to this kak.reg file. Since you can't find the file, I'd say delete the offending shortcut or batch file language and forget consider the case closed.

If it really is a "memory driver error", I'd be surprised--Win98 doesn't rely on drivers as far as I know.

Let us know... regards...

That's a worm. Go to Symantec or McAfee websites for further information.

I worked on removing every sign of the kak files from the registry. They are directly linked to files with 'hta' extension, also found in many other places on the hard drive. The file that runs at startup is a html document which does all the work for the worm.
After removing all signs of it from registry and the hard drive, I logged any activity and found that
it was directly a result of Outlook Express so it must have been part of an email. If you look at the file using a text editor you can trace paths to removal.
