Hello everybody, this is my first post to this site, so be kind.

To business, recently a lot of downloaded, self contained, install files have been refusing to run, with win 98 claiming that thses files (eg winzip 8.1, and sonique 1.96) are corrupt.

I currently run an Athlon 2000+ XP, MSI 745 Ultra motherboard, 512 Mb DDR, 60 Gb Hdd, Creative Soundblaster 4.1, Creative Nvidia G force 4 MX 440 64 Mb video card, Logitech Pilot Mouse+ and Logitech Wingman extreme digital joystick.

If it's helpful here's an error message from a new mp3 player i wanted to install:

ULTRA2112 caused an invalid page fault in
module ULTRA2112.EXE at 0167:0040713b.

The problem extends to some games, eg F1 2002.
With installed programs refusing to run.

Is this some kind of mental hardware problem, or is there are windows function that needs changing?

What ever the problem is, it's a pain in the ****!
Any chance of some help?

The problem could indeed be corrupted downloads, unless you are also getting the same messages with trying to install from CDs. Have seen some problems with the higher-speed connections such as Cable modems and wireless. Doesn't take much to corrupt a file, the loss of 1 bit/character in a file can do it.

Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement

Hi

I haven't checked your error messages so excuse this as is.

Are you using a download accelerator? In agreement with Bert I have encountered lots of errors using them whilst downloading compressed (ie self installing) .exe files. You don;t need much of a 'blip' to render them useless.

As I said I haven't checked any of the posted error messages but do you think the EAX one refers to your sound card driver?

If at first you don't succeed, then you probably shouldn't skydive!
