If you can't get into Safe Mode, then you may need to reinstall.
Everytime I've f*ed my computer up so bad that Safe Mode doesn't even start, /images/forums/icons/tongue.gif (not always easy to do, either) I've ended up reinstalling.

You could try downloading an ME bootdisk from bootdisk.com and attempt to copy the file that comes up in the error.
Also, if I may inquire...what were you trying to install, that caused this problem?

Always glad to help!

You wnat to try the following:

1. Download a W98 SE bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com

2. Boot to the command prompt and type scanreg /restore (you may need to navigate to C:\Windows)

3. Select a date prior to when you installed the software.

Cheers

I thought that you couldn't access the system drive if you run ME, but boot with a 98 disk.
I swear it didn't work everytime I tried it...

Josh,

You may be correct but I thought Me was a FAT32 implementation which means that it should be accessable from a W98 boot disk.

I don't have any of the 9x operating systems on my machines so I can't confirm it either way.

Hopefully the original poster can confirm it /images/forums/icons/smile.gif

Cheers
