Media Player skips (W98)

The latest Windows Media Player, used on my Windows 98, chronically skips forward. I have checked my DSL speed, but this does not help. Can it be that the player is not meant to be used on 98, but only on more updated versions of Windows?

What are your system specs? I would think the more likely culprit is the size of the files vs the power of your system. At least that has been my experience with streaming media on my old 333MHz AMD on DSL.
