Safe mode (WME)

According to my instruction book, I access safe mode by holding down F8 until the Windows startup screen appears.
If I do this my computer just beeps then a message says , There was a keyboard error.
If I click START/RUN type msconfig click the advanced button and tick Enable Startup Menu the computer reboots to the startup menu and I can select and access safemode ok.
Any thoughts people.?

If you hold down the F8 key right away when you first power up (the POST screen where it displays how much RAM and what drives you have) it'll give a keyboard error, because the BIOS thinks that a key may be stuck.
Wait for that first screen to disappear first, then start holding F8.

It did say, stuck key. l've got it now, l was hitting it to early or to late, its a bit tricky getting it right. Thanks for your help.
