I am currently trying to network two pc's and I'm havining problems with the logon. I have the devices all setup with TCP/IP and they can ping each other. However I cannot browse the network. I think that the problem might be that when I boot the computer the logon screen is bypassed. I have the correct network settings set up in control pannel. Once I am in Windows I can logoff and log on but that dosent help the issue.
I am totally stumped if anyone has an idea please post them.
Thanks

Go into your network properties and make sure that file and print sharing is enabled.

Hmm... I can do is list all the necessary things to use file sharing:
1) Your network settings should include File Sharing Service, TCP/IP Protocol, Client for Microsoft Networks, and your network adapter.
2) Both machines should log on to the SAME workgroup name. Set in the Identification tab of the network properties.
3) Some directories or drives should be designated as shares.
If this doesn't help, just so we're clear on exactly what the issue is, please take us though a session from boot to the point where there is a failure step-by-step so we can follow along with you on one of our machines. Report any error/alert messages.

I think the problem is that the NetBEUI protocol isn't installed. To do so follow these steps:
1.> Go to your network properties and click <font color=green>Add</font color=green>
2.>Click <font color=green>Protocol</font color=green>, click <font color=green>Add</font color=green>
3.>Under Manufacturers select <font color=blue>Microsoft</font color=blue>
4.>Under Network Protocols select <font color=blue>NetBEUI</font color=blue>
5.>Click OK then OK again, let it copy the files, and restart your computer.
This should work for you. Hope it does.

You don't need netbeui but it can be used. I have file and print sharing bound to netbeui only and I have tcpip installed for Internet access. You should have your login set to "Client for Microsoft networks". File and print sharing and client for Microsoft networks need to be installed and bound to the network card. To make life easier put both PC's in the same work group. Create some shared folders and then set your permissions. If you duplicate your accounts on both PC's (same username and password) you won't be asked for a password when you try to access the shared folder on the other PC.
