Ok, I am doing a peer to peer connection with W98se (using a crossover cable). Both have their IP addresses set to be dynamically assigned. (One machine had previously been a DHCP server) Everytime I start them up, I get an IP address conflict. They are both trying to dynamically assign the same address! I have tried restarting the machines together, seperately and upside down.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? I would prefer to do dynamic assignment. (I have this same problem when statically assigning the addresses -192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2)

Either

1. ipconfig /release_all
ipconfig/renew

or

remove the protocol, reboot, and installed the protocol back

By the way, if you use peer to peer for 2 machines, why do dynanmic? maybe you simply enter them onto the machines, that may be much easier....
