Is there any way I can trick program installations into thinking that I have a certain Service Pack installed when I really don't? I have some programs that don't install unless I have Win 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later, but I just have Windows 2000 without any service packs, and I really do NOT want to install any service packs. Any ideas?

You may find that the program requires SP2 due to file versions on the system.

You could change the following key in the registry to see if the program installs but you may just end up causing more problems.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\CSDVersion

Change the value to Service Pack 3.

If I were you, I would install SP3. There are multiple bug fixes and security patches that may be beneficial to you.
