Hello forum members, I have a problem with a win 2000 pro machine - during startup I get an error message "invalid boot.ini file, booting from C:\winnt". I have tried to locate the boot.ini file thru search and the "Boot.ini" tab is not availble in msconfig. Does anyone have any ideas on this one? Thanks in advance.

The boot.ini should be a hidden, system file in the root of C:.

Hello!
Thanks for the reply, I enabled "show hidden and system files" in folder options and it is nowhere to be found. The machine starts and runs but this is the first instance of this type error I have seen. I tried to copy and paste the boot.ini file from an identical machine from "C:\WINNT\pss" but still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks.

The file is:
c:\boot.ini
HERE (http://www.jdharm.net/winguides/bootini.jpg>HERE</a>) is a text copy of a typical file.
It should be a hidden file and read-only.

You also need to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

Thanks to all. I had to create a new boot.ini file in notepad, load the text parameters exactly as above and save to C: - all is well now. Again, thank you all.
