The registry edit for changing the default names for driveletters in windows 2000 is good but is there anyway to make it work on network drives? or even printers for that matter. It would make viewing network drives so much easier.

Sorry, but that change has to be made on the local computer/s. It writes the label to the hard drive.
I think that the naming of Printers has to be done during setup.
To go into it just a bit further, if drives could be relabeled/printers renamed from anyplace on the network, think of the havoc that could be wreaked by someone who wanted to bring down a network simply by renaming hardware, no one could access anything.

Actually I am only after changing the way the name of the drive is displayed on a local machine. I don't want to change the actual name of the mapping at all. For example I map a drive
net use Z: \\server\documents and it would show up as
documents on "\\server" (Z:)
where it would be much easier if it just showed up as
documents (z:)

Don't know as it can be done that way as the mapping process has to take the path/name from the drive being mapped.

I wasn't sure if it could be done or not but I thought I would give it a go and ask anyway. thanks for your help.
