It's kinda ***-backwards, I know, but this is the way it is -- 0, not 1, prevents paging the kernel to disk.

No, the value 0 allows paging to disk.
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0
Description
Specifies whether user-mode and kernel-mode drivers and kernel-mode system code can be paged to disk when not in use.
Value Meaning
0 Drivers and the kernel can be paged to disk as needed.
1 Drivers and the kernel must remain in physical memory.

I have always set mine to 1, I have 1 GiG of RAM, so I set it to 0 and it was faster, if you use the new CachemanXP (Ram Booster) auto optimize sets it to 1, I change mine to 0 under tweaks after auto optimize, I guess you have to experiment
