I am trying to network 2 win2000 pro boxes.
I have installed the 2 NIC's and have a cable connecting them. i have alos installed Client TCPIP etc.
But still the status of the LAN icons on both machines is a red cross ie Network cable unplugged
What am i doing wrong?

If you are running the cable between the 2 computers with nothing in between, make sure you are using a cross-over cable. If you are running the cables from the computers to a hub/switch, you have to use straight-through cables.

I had a similar problem when I up-graded my 98SE machines to 2K Pro. The linksys network cards that worked fine with Win 98 had to be replaced with basically the same linksys card designed for 2K. Solved my problem.

hi, please check the cable u can connect b\w two computers it should be cross over cable.
first end combination is ( ow/o, wg/blu, wblu/g, wbr/br)
second end comb. (wg/g, ow/blu,w blu/o, wbr/br)
