Ok check this one out.

One of my user looses a file, i start checking his computer. Ok .... I see the icon for recycle bin, you know when the icon shows little paper on the top (to show there stuff in it) so i double click on the recycle bin ... NO ITEM !!!!!!!! nothing !!! Yet I right click on my recycle bin, choose the option empty recycle bin, and I get this "are you sure you want to deleate those 28 items"

!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

the guy has the latest service packs for win2k (sp3) hes local admin with all rights to operate his pc normally. No installs were done recently or hardware added.

The only thing ive seen on the msdn is that this kind of problem can occur when user dosen't have permission on the folder, its not my case.

Im going to continue working on this, im thinking of reinstalling the sp3, will see.

ALSO, when i check the recycler folder on the C. I have 5 folders inside (?????) all with string of SID's starting with S-1-5 ... one of them has data on it, but its not what im looking for, but its weird !!! should only have 1 folder there .. right ???

Help andy-s ! :)

Some explanations, though maybe not the explanations.

The recycle bins with the 'sids' as names is what I see on my servers that have shared directories. Files deleted by users on the network show up in these bins. If file sharing enabled on this computer with non-administrative shares?

As for the files in the recycle bin not showing up, check Explorer options and see if the 'show all files' is selected and not 'hide system and hidden files'. This could cause files in the recycle bin not to show up and the 'hide' selection is the default option.
