Setting Diplay (W98)

I am trying to load some games for my daughter's computer. When I insert the CD I receive an error message stating that the color display requires a setting of 256. When I go into Control Pannel to change my display settings, I do not have an option for 256. The highest option I have is 16. How can I resolve this?

Usually you have to install/re-install the software drivers for the video adapter to get higher than 16 colors. Higher numbers can be 256 colors, 16 bit color, 24 bit color, 32 bit color, depending on the adapter/card.

Have seen older games that want exactly 256 colors as a setting, wouldn't work with better/higher color settings. That was a problem with how the game was written.
