Hi,
there is an empty folder icon under "My Computer" named just "System Folder". I can't delete it. How can I get rid of it.
Thanks,
Gernot

Well, about getting rid of it, sometimes I can’t delete some folders (or folder icons) too, the computer says that the file is in use, access is denied or whatever.
By rebooting and trying to delete it again it will be deleted…
About its identity, I don’t know, but try running spybot or ad ware…
hoping you the best…

Thanks DAZ,
I tried Spybot and AdAware but no avail. I don't receive any error message when I try to delete this folder. Is there a hack in the registry or within Windows I could try?

well, i don't know if there a hack...
wait for the other guys to come in here...
BUT, can you change its location?? (drag & drop, cut & paste, etc...)
maybe by changing the location from MyCom to other would help.
try sending it (only, not deleting it) the recycle bin then clean your disk (go to cleandisk & check that it well clean your recycle bin)
well try it Ger, and sorry for not helping you in what you want

Right click on the folder and select properties. There you should find it's DOS name and it's relative path.
Then go to DOS and type it's path and name for example:
del c:\windows\desktop\system~1 or whatever it shows as it's path and DOS name and hit enter.
Please be sure not to delete your C:\Windows\System folder

Thanks to you both!
DAZ, I can't move or copy etc. the folder.
report_2: There are no properties available, when I rightclick it.
Just cut, shortcut, delete and sort by name. But no avail. Any more sugestions?
Thanks,
Gernot

Have you tried deleting the folder in Safe Mode?

With nothing open on your desktop click on a bare spot on the desktop so it, in effect, selects your desktop.
Go to Start, Run, Type in "command" with out the quotation marks and hit the Ok button.
After the DOS box opens the cursor will be blinking at the end of the path statement for the desktop.
Type in "dir" without the quotation marks and hit the Enter key.
See if you can then identify the mystery folder by it's known DOS name.
If found then type in "deltree xxxxx" where xxx is the name of the folder. (of course, that is without the quotation marks too)
Hit enter and then answer "y" when asks if you want to delete the directory by the same name. Hit Enter again to delete it.

Unfortunately I can't identify the folder. All I can see in the dos window are the shortcuts of my desktop icons.

"Any more sugestions?"
How about looking in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace
to see if you can find it there.
(You did mean this folder is on your desktop located directly below the My Computer icon right?)

No, it's not on the desktop, it's sitting below the drives A:, C:, D: etc. in the window that appears when I click at "My Computer" ("Arbeitsplatz" on my german Windows version).
Thanks for your help,
Gernot

press (Ctrl) while booting then choose (command prompt only)
if isn't working, i really don't know what to do...

Hi DAZ,
thank you. Can you describe what I have to type in DOS to locate the folder I want to delete? I don't know anything about DOS.
Greetings,
Gernot

Well ger, I won’t be that help you expect, /images/forums/icons/frown.gif
Try to display that folder by searching it (if the find command can do it or if it working in the real DOS mode)
The problem is I can’t know the real location of the folder and I don’t know how to get into My Computer location…
For floppy we type : cd A:\ then dir
For harddrv we type: cd C:\ then dir
For CD we type: cd D:\
For control panel: we can find its contents in system and system32 or windows…
But to MyComputer itself, sorry Ger I don’t know /images/forums/icons/crazy.gif
SO PLEASE TO ALL members, if anyone knows how to find the folder in MyCom using the real DOS mode PLEASE POST
Sorry GER for keeping you down/images/forums/icons/frown.gif /images/forums/icons/frown.gif /images/forums/icons/frown.gif

Thanks DAZ anyway,
maybe you point us to the right direction. That could be a big step forward solving my little "problem". I hope I hear anything from the other members.
Thanks,
Gernot
