I have been tweaking lately !!! and now find that at each start up i have an explorer window opened on the C:\Windows folder each time i restart the machine. Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how to stop it.

Did you apply <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/950/>this tweak?</a> Create separate processes for the Desktop and explorer?
That would cause that.
If you're not sure whether you did or did not apply the tweak, do this anyway:
Go to Start > Run > Regedit
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer
Click the 'Explorer' subkey once in order to display its contents in the right hand pane.
Do you see a value DesktopProcess there?
If so, highlight it in the right hand pane by clicking it once, and hit 'delete'.
Good luck, Tony

Thanks Tony
that was one of the tweaks i applied.
do you know if theres a way to stop this behaviour but to still leave the basic behaviour ( separate processes) in place ??

No, I don't think there is. :(
