Hi, I have 81 registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Dell Computer Corporation\EDocs. Of these 81 entries, there are about 35 relating to items I've never had. I've never had a flat panel monitor & there is an entry in my registry as follows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\DellComputer Corporation\EDocs\Flat-Panel Monitor. I've never had Bookshelf 2000 & my registry has an enty as follows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Dell Computer Corporation\EDocs\Microsoft Bookshelf 2000.

I bought my Dell Computer as new in Oct. 2000 & have Wind. 98 SE. I can only think of a couple of reasons for what I mentioned above. Either these entries are put in there generically before a computer is ordered to make the shipping process faster or else I was sold a reconditioned or used computer as new. I know I can probably delete some of these items, but I guess I'm still searching to find an answer to the above. It seems odd that a new computer's registry would be loaded with 35 or more unecessary items or is this a common practice with new computers before they are ordered? Does anyone know anything? Thanks, Mercury5.

When you order a system from Dell you're pretty much getting a custom built system, at least to the extent that it's tailored to your requirements from the large assortment of variables that Dell offers. So, in order to fill orders rapidly & profitably there is a good deal of pre-configuration or pre-loading of drivers, etc for the various accessory options Dell offers. That's why you have 35 items for stuff that isn't on your system. You can edit the items that are not on your system.

Thanks, Tom, for your reply. Now I can move on & not worry that I was sold a used computer as new. Silly me. Have a great weekend!

Get hold of RegistryFirstAid. It is a terrific little program that will enable you to rid of unnessary and superfluous entries in your registry.
Cheers and take care.

Hi, ycloo0. I have VCom's System Suite 4 & Reg Cleaner 4.3, but maybe I'll try Registry First Aid, also.
