Maintenance Wizard takes forever (W98)

Does anybody know why my maintenance wizard takes over 10 hours to complete?

I would guess that either scandisc or defrag is having to restart over and over again (scandisc I think will only restart only 10 times before it has enough!).

Try disabling screensaver, anti-virus, scheduled tasks...plus disable everything displayed by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE except systray and Explorer.

Basically, you don't need to do that on the startup or every day or even every week or even every month.

Defrag does not make significant speed (to me anyway) on your hard drive. It helps, but I would only suggest you do it once every 3 months before you sleep. When you wake up, everything will be done.

Of course, the bigger hard drive you have, the longer it will take....
