View Full Version : Accessing default shares from Windows 2000 (WXP-Pro)
I am trying to access the default administrative shares(C$,ADMIN$,IPC$) on a XP Pro client from a 2000 Pro machine. I get a login/password dialog box, so I enter administrator and the password, but no go. I tried the other administrator username on the XP box, no go aswell. How can I access these default shares from 2k? I havent had the opportunity to try accessing them from XP to XP clients, I know that this works flawlessly from 2k to 2k clients. Thanks!

You are on a domainless XP.
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Local Security Policy
Local Policies
Security Options
Manipulate: "Network Access: Sharing and Security Model for Local Accounts"
Set it to "Classic: Users authenticate as themselves"
OK
Reboot
Connect to your shares as you did in Win2K
Do the happy dance.
Note: when you join a domain, this changes by itself to classic unless your group policy prohibits it.
