Hello,I hope someone may be able to help me.
When my computer starts to load, the annoying "USER NAME/ PASSWORD box always appears (I can carry on loading by using cacel or escape, it's just annoying)
I and much more computer literate friends have tried everthing in the control panel etc but with no joy. I've tried the setting in the "tweak manager" application but my computer ignores it and carries on showing the log on panel. Is there a registry edit that will allow the panel to be by-passed?
Manys thanks to all for your time
Hi Alan,
Try creating this WinGuides tweak manually <font color=green>DanK<font color=green> (http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/125>http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/125</a>) /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif

There is no INF file, (just the four files within the the zipped folder) only one of which has a file extention, which is; .CNT
It's really good of you to spend time trying to help me.
Best wishes

Ok open my computer and go to the tools menu and select folder options. Under the view tab remove the checkmark for "hide file extensions of known file types". This is for win 2k and may be slightly different for windows ME, just look for "folder options". Once you do this you should see the file extensions for the three tweakui files. You could also just right click each file one at a time, only one should have the install option from the drop down list.

Thanks once again Dude, I did as you suggested in folder options, then downloaded the tweakui again (after deleting the previous download),this time the zipped folder that I received contained; tweakui.inf, tweakui.cnf, tweakui.hlp and tweakui.cpl The inf file is just a notepad file with no install option, the hlp file is the help details for the tweak application, the cnt file asks "open with" and the cpl file says"tweakui should be run from the control panel would you like to install it now",if I click yes to this it says "tweakui.CNT was not found". All a little stange!
I appreciate your help and time

Don't try to open or run the file.
IF you right click on the Tweakui.inf file one of the options in the drop down list will be install. Click on that and a couple of windows will open, just close the windows and you are all set. If you go to control panel you should now see an icon for Tweakui. Trust Microsoft to make it hard to install something so simple. Actually tweakui was originally part of Windows 95 power toys and I think they just pulled it out and were to lazy to make a new install program for it. You are not the first one to sat what the *#$% how do you install this. I had to ask around many moons ago. I now use Tweakui 1.33, it's one of the first things I install.

Hello again friend, this time I managed to install tweakui (couldn't have done it without your patient help). Sadly though, even after I selected the option to automaticaly log-on, within tweakui, the log-on box still appears!
Friends suggest that the registery is corrupted?
Once again a massive thank you for your help Dude.

You could try changing your logon to "Windows Logon" or "Microsoft Family Logon", you do this in your network properties. Another option is to use the "system file checker" to try to repair your install. Open windows help and do a search for "SFC"
I think you have to actually enter a password for tweakui to work, you can't leave it blank. Just something to check. When it works the logon box flashes up on the screen very briefly.

Delete the files with the *.PWL extension under your Windows folder, then open the system.ini file, go down until the [Password Lists] section and delete all the lines regarding to *.PWL files. Save the file and restart, then Windows will ask you one more time your user and password, in user write anything and leave the password blank, hit ENTER twice. Windows won't prompt the user/password box again...
Hope this helps...

Did you fill in the blanks, enter your username and password, in tweakui. What I mean is you may not be able to use a blank password. You may have to enter one for windows and then enter the same one for tweakui. I use it during a fresh install so I don't have to keep entering my password during the many reboots. I have a home LAN so I need client for micro$oft networks. As mentioned if you don't switching to windows logon might get rid of the logon box. I have multiple profiles on both my nt boxes so I use passwords to keep my daughter from doing things to my pc. I never thought of deleting the pwl files, sounds like a good idea in your case.
