Recently I downloaded the installer for Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1 ("AcroReader51_ENU_full.exe" - a 13 MB file) to a shared network drive on a Macintosh computer. (The shared drive holds both Mac & Windows files.)
When I ran the installer, I specified that the program be installed on my own Windows drive. This worked with no problem. The original installer (the .exe file) is still on the shared drive.
Here's what is puzzling me: When I control-click for the Properties of that .exe file, it shows 7 info tabs:
General
Digital Signatures
Program
Font
Memory
Screen
Misc
However, if I MOVE or COPY that installer to another location (such as my own Windows drive), then the info tabs change. When I control-click on the the .exe in the new location, the 7 info. tabs are removed and replaced with 3 info tabs:
General
Version
Digital Signatures
Furthermore, the "Version" tab shows version number: 2.02.001 and Description: PackageForTheWeb Stub.
I even logged on to the Adobe site again (using my own Windows computer) and this time re-downloaded the same 13 MB file directly to my Windows drive. Again, the properties only show 3 info. tabs instead of 7.
My Question: Can anyone explain why this is? Are the additional info. tabs generated only when an installer (.exe file) is actually run?
I'd be interested to know if anyone out there who archives his or her installer programs to another location or media (such as CD) notices the same properties behavior (i.e., only 3 info tabs instead of 7). In other words, is this normal or just me?
