I have a dual OS on two different drives, I want to remove the one that is currently marked as C: and just use the one that is currently marked D: Is this possible if so how do you do it? I have tried simply removing the C: drive and it just fails to boot saying ntldr is missing. Any ideas?

Hello Lamby,

Welcome to the Winguides Forums.

Since the 2000 boot system files reside on C and the master boot record is set to look to the C drive, you would have to:

1. Open the boot.ini file in the c: drive.
2. Determine which line relates to the install on C and remove it.
3. reboot into the install on D
4. you can delete the winnt folder (to free up space) on C

you could use partition magic
or maybe on the bios, tell it to boot from the 2nd disk.

I have 2 hard drives, both have win2k installed.
My boot.ini enables me to boot from both
but I can change the bios setting so that it just boots from the second harddisk

Getting the boot.ini sorted out so you could boot to the new c:\ drive probably won't be enough. All the programs you installed saved their path in the registry as D:\programfiles\...etc. Your cd-rom drive letters will probably change too. It could end up to be a big pain in the byte to make it work. It may be a lot easier to save what you want and do a clean install.
